Bangladesh’s stocks end flat amid bumpy ride

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh’s stocks closed flat Wednesday after passing a volatile trading session as most of the investors remained cautious ahead of national budget to be unveiled on Thursday.
Both the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) witnessed see-saw movement throughout the session as intra-day volatility was around 20 points.
The benchmark index of DSE earned 2.40 points, while the port city bourse, selective category index of CSE fell 3.58 points at the closing.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), edged 2.40 points or 0.05 per cent higher to settle at 4,421.79.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also saw a fractional gain of 0.31 point or 0.01 per cent to finish at 1,746.12.
However, the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) shed 0.32 point or 0.03 per cent to end at 1,091.55 points.
Investors’ participation in trading continued to remain poor, as turnover at the DSE came down to BDT 3.58 billion, which was 16 per cent lower than the previous day’s BDT 4.26 billion.
Gainers took a marginal lead over the losers, as out of 316 issues traded, 136 gained, 127 declined and 53 remained unchanged.
A total number of 0.096 million trades were executed in the day’s trading session with trading volume of 124.16 million securities.
The total market capitalisation of the DSE stood at BDT 3,111.24 billion against BDT 3,108.75 billion in the previous session.
Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company dominated the turnover chart with 3.84 million shares worth BDT 196 million changing hands, followed by Lafarge Surma Cement, Doreen Power, United Power and United Airways.
Tosrifa Industries was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 9.84 per cent, while National Bank was the worst loser, plunging 13.83 per cent following its price adjustment after record date.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
However, the port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) edged slightly lower with its Selective Categories Index- CSCX- falling 3.58 points to close at 8,283.76 points.
Losers beat gainers 105 to 96, with 32 issues remaining unchanged on the port city bourse that traded 12.41 million shares and mutual fund units with a value of over BDT 251 million.
