Bangladesh’s stocks ends amid choppy trading

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh’s stocks ended mixed after witnessing marginal gain in the previous day, as late hour selling pressure wiped-off early gains on Thursday, last trading session of the week.
Both the Dhaka Stock Exchange, the prime bourse of Bangladesh, and Chittagong Stock Exchange, the port city bourse of the country, opened with a positive note, gaining around 10 points within first 40 minutes of trading, however, rest of the session fell steadily, eventually ended slightly lower.
The key index of the DSE lost 1.44 points, while the Selective Category Index of CSE gained 1.46 points at the closing.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
At the end of the session, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), settled at 4,418.98, shedding 1.44 points or 0.03 per cent.
The two other indices edged lower. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, fell 3.51 points or 0.20 per cent to finish at 1,738.06 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 2.18 points or 0.20 per cent to end at 1,082.88 points.
Turnover, an important indicator of the market, however, advanced marginally and amounted to BDT 3.40 billion, which was 5.26 per cent higher than the previous day’s BDT 3.231 billion.
Losers took a marginal lead over the gainers, as out of 319 issues traded, 141 closed lower, 116 closed higher and 62 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
The newly listed ACME Laboratories continued dominated the turnover chart for the third day with 3.87 million shares worth BDT 450 million changing hands, followed by BSRM, Orion Infusion, Bangladesh Building Systems and Linde Bangladesh.
Orion Infusion was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 8.70 per cent, while Information Services Network was the worst loser, plunging by 8.33 per cent.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
However, the port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) ended marginally higher with its Selective Categories Index- CSCX – advancing 1.46 points to close at 8,274.34 points.
Losers beat gainers 98 to 95, with 38 issues remaining unchanged on the port city bourse that traded 6.70 million shares and mutual fund units with a value of over Tk 239 million.
