Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited (IBBL)’s customers’ base reached at 11.5 million representing 14 per cent share of Bangladesh’s banking customers and 25 per cent of the global Islamic banking clients.
It was disclosed at half-yearly business development conference, held at a local hotel on Sunday with the bank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mohammad Abdul Mannan in the chair.
Besides, deposit and investment of the IBBL stood at BDT 650 billion and 570 billion respectively till June 30 which were BDT 50 billion and BDT 60 billion higher than that of the figure a year ago.
The IBBL’s foreign exchange business covering import, export and remittance stood at BDT 450 billion during the period.
“The IBBL has been contributing to the national economy through welfare oriented banking investment in industrialization, strengthening rural economy and employment generation,” Engr. Mustafa Anwar, chairman of the leading private commercial bank, said while speaking as chief guest.
He also said the Islami Bank is the only Bangladeshi bank among the top 1000 banks of the world and most compliant bank in the country and trying to become a global compliant one.
“The Islami bank has been working for the last 33 years in maximizing welfare in financial sector, do away with evil and improving people’s living standard through financial inclusion, extending investment and fulfillment of Shariah’s objective,” Mr. Mannan explained.
The Bank prioritizes welfare over profit and hereby makes no investment in derogatory sectors such as tobacco despite its high profitability, he added.
Among others M. Azizul Haq, vice chairman, Professor Syed Ahsanul Alam, chairman of the executive committee, Helal Ahmed Chowdhury, chairman of theaudit committee, Md. Abdul Mabud, PPM, chairman of the risk management committee and directors Professor Dr. Qazi Shahidul Alam, Major General (retd) Engr. Abdul Matin, Mohammed Humayun Kabir, FCA, Md. Syful Islam, FCA, FCMA, Dr. Zillur Rahman and Professor ANM Sayeedul Haque Khan also spoke on the occasion.
Top executives of head office, head of zones and 304 branch managers from across the country participated in the conference.
