Bangladesh’s stocks edge up for five days

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Bangladesh’s stocks finished marginally session Tuesday, extending the gaining spell for fifth session in a row, as optimistic investors remained active on sector specific stocks ahead of Eid-ul-Azha vacation.
Analysts said the market finished marginally higher for five days as pre-Eid sale pressure faded away, while enthusiastic investors remained active on some large-cap stocks.
Only two trading sessions are left before Eid vacation. The trading on the bourses will remain closed for six days from September 9 to September 14, including weekly holidays.
The market started with a positive note in the morning, but fell nearly 10 points within first 90 minutes of trading. However, last two hours buying, especially on some large-cap stocks, helped the market to close slightly higher.
The benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) finished at 4,568.36, advancing 4.67 points or 0.10 percent over the previous day.
The two other in indices also edged up. The DS30 comprising blue chips advanced 2.75 points or 0.16 percent to settle at 1,754.31 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also saw a fractional gain of 0.42 point or 0.04 percent to close at 1,106.98 points.
Turnover, the important indicator for the market, also improved to BDT 4.76 billion, which was nearly 12 percent higher than the previous day’s BDT 4.25 billion.

The gainers took a modest lead over the losers as out of 310 issues traded, 140 closed higher, 112 closed lower and 58 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Shahjibazar Power Company dominated the DSE turnover chart for the four consecutive sessions with some 1.48 million shares worth nearlyBDT 249 million changing hands, followed by Square Pharmaceuticals, Doreen Power Generations and Systems, Singer Bangladesh and Lafarge Surma Cement.
Apex Foods was the day’s best performer, posting a rise of 8.72 percent, while Reliance Insurance was the worst loser, slumping by 9.76 percent.
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also finished higher with its Selective Categories Index- CSCX –gaining 13.73 points to settle at 8,549.08 points.
Gainers beat losers as 99 issues closed higher, 88 closed lower and 40 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 6.48 million shares and mutual fund units worth neatly BDT 228 million in turnover.
