Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks ended higher on Sunday, the first session after Eid holidays with low turnover, as optimistic investors remained active on sector specific stocks.
The trading on the Bangladesh’s stock markets remained closed for nine days from September 9 to September 17, including weekly holidays and special holidays.
The market witnessed volatility in the first one hour, but last three hours went up steadily, ultimately ended 22.89 points higher.
DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 22.89 points or 0.49 percent to finish at 4,623.98 points, which is nearly eight months high level of DSEX since January 24.
The two other in indices closed marginally higher. The DS30 comprising blue chips advanced 6.08 points or 0.35 percent to settle at 1,765.74 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) gained 2.46 points or 0.22 percent to close at 1,111.12 points.
However, turnover on DSE fell to more than two months low to BDT 3.14 billion, which was 34 per cent lower than the previous day’s BDT 4.81 billion, as many investors are yet join in the market after Eid holidays.
The gainers took a modest lead over the losers as out of 318 issues traded, 139 closed higher, 130 closed lower and 49 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Lafarge Surma Cement dominated the DSE turnover chart with shares worth nearly BDT 249 million changing hands, followed by ACME Laboratories BDT 172 million, GPH Ispat Complex BDT 125 million, Shahjibazar Power Company BDT 123 million and KDS Accessories BDT 120 million.
SEML Lecture Equity Management Fund was the day’s best performer, posting a rise of 8.82 percent, while Savar Refactories was the worst loser, slumping by 5.51 percent.
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also finished higher higher with its Selective Categories Index- CSCX – advancing 35.23 points to settle at 8,652.43 points.
Gainers beat losers as 97 issues closed higher, 94 closed lower and 35 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 8.52 million shares and mutual fund units worth over BDT 351 million in turnover.
