Bangladesh’s stocks return to green

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks returned to green on Monday, after facing a mild correction in the previous day, as optimistic investors were active on sector specific large-cap stocks.
The market started with a positive and the key index of the premier bourse advanced about 16 points within first 50 minutes of trading, however it went into the red after three hours of trading, but last hour buying spree helped the market closed marginally higher.
At the end of the session, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), finished at 4,683.99, advancing 10.55 points or 0.23 percent, after losing 6.87 points in the previous day.
The two other in indices also edged higher. The DS30 comprising blue chips advanced 2.90 points or 0.16 percent to settle at 1,771.49 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) rose 1.70 points or 0.15 percent to close at 1,122.63 points.
Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, however fell slightly and the total turnover on the DSE stood at BDT 5.53 billion, which was 4.0 percent lower than the previous day’s BDT 5.76 billion.
The gainers took a strong lead over the losers as out of 322 issues traded, 175 closed higher, 103 closed lower and 44 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
LankaBangla Finance dominated the DSE turnover chart with shares worth over BDT 186 million changing hands, closely followed by Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company BDT 151 million, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation BDT 138 million, Far Chemical BDT 113 million and Doreen Power Generations and Systems BDT 110 million.
Apex Spinning was also the day’s best performer, posting a rise of 9.95 percent, while Monno Staffler was the worst loser, slumping by 4.37 percent.
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also finished higher with its Selective Categories Index- CSCX – advancing 50 points to settle at 8,775.76 points.
Gainers beat losers as 151 issues closed lower, 69 closed higher and 32 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 13.36 million shares and mutual fund units worth nearly BDT 355 million in turnover.
