Bangladesh’s stocks edge lower for 2nd day

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks finished marginally lower for the second day in a row on Thursday as risk-averse investors continued on selling mood.

Both bourses – the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed in the red amid profit booking by the risk-averse investors.

The market started with a negative note which sustained till end of the session, eventually ended marginally lower.

At the end of the session, the key index of the DSE fell 10.08 points, while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse lost 21.49 points.

DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), finished at 4,692.44 points, falling 10.08 points or 0.21 percent over the previous session.

The two other indices also closed in the red. The DS30 comprising blue chips fell 2.32 points or 0.13 percent to settle at 1,748.23 points.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 2.73 points or 0.25 percent to close at 1,111.76 points.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, also fell to BDT 5.01 billion, which was 10.53 percent lower than the previous session’s turnover of BDT 5.60 billion.

The losers took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 325 issues traded, 156 closed lower, 110 closed higher and 59 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Fortune Shoes, which made share trading debut today, dominated the DSE turnover chart with some 9.49 million shares worth nearly BDT 486 million changing hands, followed by Doreen Power BDT 273 million, National Bank BDT 156 million, Titas Gas BDT 92 million and Singer Bangladesh BDT 89 million.

The newly listed Fortune Shoes was the day’s best performer, posting a 501 percent gain from its issue price of BDT 10, while Far Chemicals was the worst loser, slumping by 19.32 percent.

Chittagong Stock Exchange:

The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed marginally with its Selective Categories Index- CSCX –shedding 21.49 points to settle at 8,769.98 points.

Losers beat gainers as 129 issues closed lower, 94 closed lower and 31 remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city bourse traded 14.17 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth over BDT 391 million in turnover.
