Bangladesh’s stocks finish flat after bumpy ride

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks finished almost flat in green territory on Sunday after witnessing volatility throughout the session as investors followed cautious stance.

Both bourses – the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed in the flat zone.

After witnessing volatility almost throughout the session, the key index of the DSE advanced 0.56 points, while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse rose 4.79 points.

DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), finished at 4,693.00 points, advancing 0.56 points or 0.01 percent over the previous session.

The two other indices also closed in the green zone. The DS30 comprising blue chips gained 5.97 points or 0.34 percent to settle at 1,754.20 points.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) rose 5.74 points or 0.52 percent to close at 1,117.54 points.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, also advanced to BDT 5.67 billion, which was 13 percent lower than the previous session’s turnover of BDT 5.01 billion.

The losers took a modest lead over the gainers as out of 326 issues traded, 161 closed lower, 130 closed higher and 35 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Doreen Power dominated the DSE turnover chart with some 5.46 million shares worth nearly BDT 520 million changing hands, followed by IT Consultants BDT 157 million, MJL Bangladesh 148 million, Saif Powertech BDT 127 million and MJL Bangladesh BDT 126 million.

Doreen Power was the day’s best performer, posting a 21.87 percent gain following its dividend recommendation news, while Peninsula Chittagong was the worst loser, slumping by 7.89 percent.

Chittagong Stock Exchange:

The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed marginally higher with its Selective Categories Index- CSCX –advancing 4.79 points to settle at 8,768.19 points.

Gainers beat losers as 120 issues closed higher, 114 closed lower and 17 remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city bourse traded 16.05 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth over BDT 382 million in turnover.
