Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks returned to green with choppy trading on Tuesday, breaking a four days losing streak as some investors took position on sector specific stocks.
Both bourses – the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) finished marginally higher after remaining down in the past four consecutive sessions.
The market started with a positive note and the key index of the premier bourse gaining nearly 16 points within first hour of trading, but failed to sustain that level, ultimately ended marginally higher.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), finished at 4,596.86 points, advancing 4.68 points or 0.10 percent over the previous day.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also gained 2.54 points or 0.23 percent to close at 1,102.59 points.
However, the DS30 comprising blue chips fell 2.41 points or 0.14 percent to settle at 1,731.02 points.
Turnover, the important indicator of the market, came down to BDT 3.77 billion, which was 3.08 percent lower than the previous session’s turnover of BDT 3.89 billion.
The losers took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 324 issues traded, 151 closed lower, 121 closed higher and 52 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Quasem Drycells dominated the DSE turnover chart with some 1.85 million shares worth BDT 153 million changing hands, closely followed by Doreen Power BDT 152 million, MJL Bangladesh BDT 144 million, Bangladesh Building Systems BDT 112 million and Fortune Shoes BDT 109 million.
Confidence Cement was the day’s best performer, posting a 12.84 percent gain, while Dacca Dyeing was the worst loser, slumping by 13.75 percent.
Chittagong Stock Exchange:
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended slightly higher with its Selective Categories Index - CSCX – advancing 2.95 points to settle at 8,608.06 points.
Losers beat gainers as 106 issues closed lower, 95 closed higher and 33 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 10.78 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth over BDT 266 million in turnover.
