Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks witnessed moderate gain on Monday with turnover on the premier bourse crossing BDT 6.0 billion-mark as the hopeful investors were active on sectors specific stocks throughout the session.
The market started with a positive note which sustained till end of the session. DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), settled at 4,689.18, gaining 16.78 points or 0.36 percent over the previous session.
The two other indices also closed marginally higher. The DS30 comprising blue chips advanced 6.0 points or 0.34 percent to finish at 1,762.81 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) gained 5.47 points or 0.48 percent to close at 1,124.47 points.
Turnover, the important indicator of the market, rose to BDT 6.34 billion, which was 35 percent higher than the previous day’s turnover of BDT 4.68 billion.
The gainers took a modest lead over the losers as out of 321 issues traded, 144 closed higher, 125 closed lower and 52 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Doreen Power Generations and Systems dominated the DSE turnover chart with shares worth over BDT 281 million changing hands, followed by Confidence Cement BDT 216 million, Shasha Denim BDT 209 million, Brac Bank BDT 172 million and Square Pharmaceuticals BDT 170 million.
Argon Denim was the day’s best performer, posting a rise of 8.71 percent, while RD Food was the worst loser, slumping by 7.64 percent.
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also finished marginally higher with its Selective Categories Index- CSCX –advancing 18.00 points to settle at 8,750.09 points.
Gainers beat losers as 109 issues closed higher, 97 closed lower and 30 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 10.40 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth over BDT 346 million in turnover.
