Bangladesh’s stocks end flat with high turnover

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks ended flat in green zone on Tuesday with trading activities remained high as risk-averse investors booked profit on sectors specific stocks later part of the trading session.
The market started with an upward trend and crossed the 4,700-level after first 15 minutes of trading, but could not sustained that level as some investors booked profit on later part of the session, ultimately closed almost flat green zone.
At the end of the session, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), finished at 4,691.06 points, gaining 1.88 points or 0.04 percent over the previous session.
The two other indices also closed slightly higher. The DS30 comprising blue chips advanced 0.97 points or 0.06 percent to settle at 1,763.78 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) gained 1.77 points or 0.16 percent to close at 1,126.24 points.
Turnover, the important indicator of the market, improved further and the total turnover on the DSE amounted to BDT 6.44 billion, which was 1.58 percent higher than the previous day’s turnover of BDT 6.34 billion.
The losers took a modest lead over the gainers as out of 321 issues traded, 151 closed lower, 112 closed higher and 58 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Confidence Cement dominated the DSE turnover chart with 4.11 million shares worth nearly BDT 505 million changing hands, followed by Doreen Power BDT 242 million, Shasha Denim BDT over 200 million, Power Grid Company BDT 196 million and Saif Powertec BDT 179 million.
Power Grid Company was the day’s best performer, posting a 9.85 percent, while Kay & Que was the worst loser, slumping by 11.58 percent following its no dividend declaration on Tuesday day.
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also finished marginally higher with its Selective Categories Index- CSCX –advancing 15.43 points to settle at 8,765.53 points.
Losers beat gainers as 121 issues closed lower, 91 closed higher and 43 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 11.04 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth over BDT 372 million in turnover.
