Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Bangladesh Building Systems (BBS) dominated the week’s transaction chart on the Dhaka bourse that ended on Thursday following the news of withdrawing rights issue application.
According to statistics available with the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), about 26.89 million shares of Bangladesh Building Systems were traded, generating a turnover of over BDT 1.24 billion last week. It was 4.0 percent of the week’s total turnover.
The daily average turnover for the power generation company was BDT 248 million.
Each share of the company closed at BDT 46.40 on Thursday, the last trading session of the week, registering an increase of 6.67 percent over the previous week.
The company disclosed Q1 financial report last week. As per Q1 financial report, the company’s earnings per share (EPS) stood BDT 0.85 for July-September, 2016 as against BDT 0.54 for July-September, 2015.
The board of directors has decided to withdraw the rights issue application from securities regulator subject to the approval of the members in the annual general meeting due to favorable financing proposal from other source to meet up the cost of business expansion of the company.
The board of directors has recommended 5.0 percent cash dividend (excluding sponsors) and 10 percent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2016.
The company’s paid-up capital is BDT 1,059.84 million and authorised capital is BDT 1,500 million while the total number of securities is 105,984,000.
The sponsor-directors own 31.95 percent stake in the BBS, while institutional investors own 30.70 percent, foreign 0.13 percent and the general public 37.22 percent as on October 31, 2016, the DSE data showed.
BBS was, closely followed by Shasha Denims BDT 987 million, Square Pharmaceuticals BDT 860 million, Quasem Drycells BDT 798 million, Golden Harvest Agro Industries BDT 767 million and Confidence Cement BDT 751 million.
National Tubes was also included in the top ten turnover chart with shares worth BDT 685 million changing hands, followed by Doreen Power BDT 646 million, Eastern Housing BDT 642 million and Power Grid Company BDT 628 million.
