Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks finished marginally lower on Sunday, breaking a four days winning spell as some investors booked quick-profit on sector specific stocks.
Both bourses – the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) – closed slightly lower after four consecutive sessions gain.
The market started with a higher note, key index of the premier bourse crossing the 4,800-mark within first 15 minutes of trading, but could not sustain that level amid profit booking sale pressure, ultimately closed in the red.
The prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), finished at 4,786.58 points, shedding 4.76 points and Selective Categories Index of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also lost 12.32 points to settle at 8,949.97.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), finished at 4,786.58 points, shedding 4.76 points or 0.09 percent over the previous day.
The DS30 comprising blue chips fell 1.03 points or 0.05 percent to settle at 1,768.49 points.
However, the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 1.42 points or 0.12 percent to close at 1,134.68 points.
Turnover, the important indicator of the market, also fell to BDT 6.10 billion, which was 7.29 percent lower than the previous session’s turnover of BDT 4.57 billion.
The losers took a modest lead over the gainers as out of 320 issues traded, 152 closed lower, 128 closed higher and 40 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Doreen Power Generation and Systems dominated the DSE turnover chart for the second session with about 1.96 million shares worth BDT nearly 249 million changing hands, closely followed by Bangladesh Building Systems BDT 215 million, Quasem Drycells BDT 187 million, AB Bank BDT 166 million and Beximco BDT 153 million.
Zeal Bangla Sugar Mills was the day’s highest gainer, posting a 10 percent gain, while Emerald Oil Industries was the worst loser, slumping by 11.39 percent.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended marginally lower with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – losing 12.32 points to settle at 8,949.97 points.
Gainers beat losers as 109 issues closed higher, 112 closed lower and 24 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 18.68 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth over BDT 406 million in turnover.
