Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks maintained the early hour’s choppy trading on Wednesday as investors are playing on both sides of trading fence just ahead of year closing. Only one trading session is left in 2016.
After breaking the major ‘psychological’ threshold of 5,000-mark in the previous day, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, the premier bourse of the country, reached at 5,040 points within first 10 minutes of trading, gaining 24 points.
However, it came down to 5,002 points within 30 minutes of trading, shedding all the early gain.
After one hour of trading, DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 7.78 points or 0.16 percent to stand at 5,024.53 points.
After two hours of trading at 12:30pm, the market remained volatile with the key index of the DSE fell 2.27 points, while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse lost 23.50 points.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
After two hours of trading, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, reached at 5,014.47 points, losing 2.27 points or 0.06 percent at 12:30pm.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips shed 0.30 points or 0.01 percent to reach at 1,807.16 points at 12:30pm.
However, the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 3.63 points or 0.31 percent to reach at 1,185.87 points.
Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, stands at BDT 3.97 billion when the report was filed at 12:30pm.
Of the issues traded till then, 153 advanced, 122 declined and 47 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor riding on Central Pharmecuticals and Bangladesh Building Systems.
Central Pharmaceuticals dominated the turnover chart with shares worth BDT 160 million changing hands till then, closely followed by Bangladesh Building Systems BDT 148 million, Square Pharmaceuticals BDT 113 million, Mozaffar Hossain Spinning Mills BDT 112 million and Summit Alliance Port BDT 100 million.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also maintained the negative trend after two hours of trading as its Selective Category Index – CSCX – falling 18.20 points to stand at 9341.94 points, also at 12:30pm.
Of the issues traded till then, 94 gained, 112 declined and 20 issues remained unchanged with BDT 212 million in turnover.
