Bangladesh’s stocks fail to keep upturn at midday

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh’s stocks failed to keep the early hour’s upward momentum on midday Thursday as risk-averse investors booked profit on sector specific stocks.
The market opened with a positive trend and the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by15.26 points or 0.28 per cent to reach at 5,349.13 points within first 15 minutes of trading.
However, the upward momentum could not sustain for a long as risk-averse investors started to book profit on stocks which saw significant gain in the past few days.
After 30 minutes of trading, DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, fell 5.39 points or 0.10 per cent to stand at 5,328.48 points at 11am.
At 12:00 noon, the key index of the DSE fell 1.40 points, while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse lost 26.20 points.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
After one and a half hours of trading, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) stands at 5,332.48 points, losing 1.40 points or 0.03 per cent at 12:00 noon.
The two other indices also showed negative trend.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips fell 1.48 points or 0.07 per cent to reach at 1,906.88 points at 12:00 noon.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also lost 0.30 points or 0.02 per cent to reach at 1,245.54 points.
Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, stands at BDT 5.60 billion when the report was filed at 12:00 noon, driven by Baraka Power and Beximco.
Of the issues traded till then, 147 advanced, 139 declined and 33 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Baraka Power dominated the turnover chart with shares worth BDT 306 million changing hands till then, followed by Beximco BDT 246 million, LankaBangla Finance BDT 227 million, IFAD Autos BDT 207 million, and Premier Bank BDT 125 million.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also saw negative trend till 12:00 noon as its Selective Category Index – CSCX – losing 26.20 points to stand at 9,908.61 points, also at 12:00 noon.
Of the issues traded till then, 86 gained, 107 declined and 23 issues remained unchanged with BDT 260 million in turnover.
