Bangladesh’s stocks keep upward trend at midday

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh’s stocks kept the early hour’s upward trend at midday on Monday as investors remained active on large-cap stocks.
Analysts said Bangladesh’s capital market has already got back its rhythm riding on various reforms, while the finance minister’s latest comments that the market would emerge ‘very strong’ by 2020, encouraged the investors further.
After crossing the 5,600-mark in the previous day, the market opened with a flying note and the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) rose 50 points within first 15 minutes of trading.
After 30 minutes of trading, DSEX, the prime index of the DSE reached at 5,678, jumping 75.74 points or 1.35 per cent.
At 12:00 noon, DSEX rose 66.03 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse soared 136.32 points when the report was filed.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
After one and a half hours of trading, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) reached at 5,668.87, gaining 66.03 points or 1.17 per cent when the report was filing at 12:00 noon.
The two other indices also saw upward trend.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips rose 18.10 points or 0.90 per cent to reach at 2,029.82 points at 12:00 noon.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 9.03 points or 0.70 per cent to reach at 1,295.45 points.
Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, stands at BDT 9.60 billion when the report was filed at 12:00 noon riding on Islami Bank and AB Bank.
Of the issues traded till then, 175 advanced, 115 declined and 31 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Islami Bank dominated the turnover chart with shares worth BDT 309 million changing hands till then, closely followed by AB Bank BDT 300 million, Beximco BDT 273 million, LankaBangla Finance BDT 272 million and Baraka Power BDT 247 million.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also saw upward trend till 12:00 noon as its Selective Category Index – CSCX – advancing 136.32 points to stand at 10,642.40 points, also at 12:00 noon.
Of the issues traded till then, 121 gained, 88 declined and 19 issues remained unchanged with BDT 510 million in turnover.
