Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Bangladesh’s stocks rebounded on Tuesday, snapping a four-day losing streak, as optimistic investors went late hours buying spree on some large-cap stocks.
Analysts said the market returned to higher after see-saw movement as some investors took position on sector specific stocks, especially last half of the trading session.
After witnessing high volatility in the first half of the trading session, last half went up steadily, ultimately ended 47 points higher.
DSEX advanced 47.13 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse added 112.52 points at the closing.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), settled at 5468.34, advancing 47.13 points or 0.86 per cent over the previous day.
The two other indices also closed higher.
The DS30, comprising blue chips, rose 14.69 points or 0.74 per cent to close at 1993.15 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) gained 8.22 points or 0.65 per cent to finish at 1,268.28 points.
However, turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, came down below BDT 10 billion-mark after a month and the total turnover amounted to BDT 9.56 billion, which was 11 percent lower than the previous day’s BDT 10.74 billion.
The gainers took a modest lead over the losers as 326 issues traded, 185 closed higher, 121 closed higher and 20 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Islami Bank dominated the DSE turnover chart with about 9.02 million shares of BDT 397 million changing hands, followed by Beximco, Ratanpur Steel Re-rolling Mills, Doreen Power Generations and Systems and Olympic Industries.
Dragon Sweater and Spinning was the day’s highest gainer, posting 9.70 percent rise, while Golden Son was the worst loser, plunging by 6.67 per cent.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also returned to higher with its Selective Categories Index - CSCX –advancing 112.52 points to settle at 10,295 points.
Gainers beat losers as 153 issues closed higher, 84 closed lower and 22 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 18.27 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth BDT 496 million in turnover.
