Bangladesh’s stocks inch higher after bumpy ride

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Bangladesh’s stocks finished slightly higher on Thursday, after witnessing see-saw movement throughout the session, as investors were active both sides of the trading fence.
Market insiders said the index moved into the red and green frequently throughout the session as some investors continued their selling spree, while cautious investors rebalanced their portfolio, making the market volatile.
Key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced 10.03 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse added 17.31 points at the closing.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE;
After witnessing high volatility throughout the session, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 10.03 points or 0.18 per cent to settle at 5,590.66 points, after facing mild correction in the previous day.
The two other indices also inched higher.
The DS30, comprising blue chips, advanced 2.15 points or 0.11 per cent to close at 2,027.68 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) gained 2.05 points or 0.15 per cent to close at 1,306.15 points.
Turnover, the most important indicator of the market, also rose to BDT 10.62 billion, which was 0.85 percent higher than the previous day’s BDT 10.54 billion.
The losers took a modest lead over the gainers as out of 327 issues traded, 156 closed lower, 118 closed higher and 53 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Baraka Power dominated the DSE turnover chart with about 14.03 million shares worth BDT 686 million changing hands, followed by LankaBangla Finance, IDLC Finance, IFAD Autos and Central Pharma.
LankaBangla Finance was the day’s highest gainer, posting 7.34 percent gain, while RN Spinning was the worst loser, shedding 5.26 per cent.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also edged higher with its Selective Categories Index - CSCX – advancing 17.31 points to settle at 10489.04 points.
Losers beat gainers as 116 issues closed lower, 100 closed higher and 40 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 20.71 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth over BDT 635 million in turnover.
