Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Baraka Power dominated the transaction chart of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) last week that ended on Thursday as investors took position on its shares amid optimism.
According to the statistics available with the DSE, about 40.26 million shares of Baraka Power were traded, generating a turnover of BDT 2.07 billion, which was 4.0 percent of the week’s total turnover value.
The average daily turnover for the power generation company was nearly BDT 519 million.
The company’s share price closed at BDT 52 on Thursday, the last trading session of the week, registering an increase of 5.26 percent over the previous week.
Baraka Power, which was listed on the bourses in 2011, disbursed 15 percent cash and 5.0 percent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2016.
Baraka Power is a joint venture of local and Non Resident Bangladeshi (NRB) group of entrepreneur. The power company was incorporated in Bangladesh on 26th June 2007.
The company’s consolidated second quarter (Q2) earnings per share (EPS) stood at BDT 0.74 for October-December period of 2016 as against BDT 0.68 for the same period a year ago.
In six months for July-December period of 2016, consolidated EPS was BDT 1.63 as against BDT 1.53 for July-December, 2015.
The company’s paid-up capital is BDT 1.74 billion and authorised capital is BDT 3.0 billion, while the total number of securities is 173,961,555. The total market capitalisation stood at Tk 9.10 billion as on Thursday.
The sponsor-directors own 19.91 percent stake in Baraka, while institutional investors own 27.16 percent, foreign investors 0.54 percent and the general public 52.39 percent as on January 31, 2017, the DSE data shows.
Baraka Power was, closely followed by LankaBangla Finance with about 31.85 million shares worth BDT 1.87 billion changing hands, followed by Beximco BDT 1.18 billion, IDLC Finance BDT 1.17 billion, Appollo Ispat Complex BDT 1.16 billion, IFAD Autos BDT 1.13 billion and AFC Agro Biotech BDT 1.07 billion.
CMC Kamal also included in the week’s top ten turnover chart with 39.32 million shares of BDT 1.06 billion changing hands, followed by Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company BDT 959 million and Central Pharmaceuticals Company BDT 904 million.
