Bangladesh’s stocks extend gaining spell for 4th day

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Bangladesh’s stocks witnessed yet another gaining session on Thursday, extending their winning streak for the fourth straight session as enthusiastic investors continued their buying spree amid optimism.
The market opened higher note and the key index of the premier bourse rose nearly 48 points within first 30 minutes of trading. Later on investors concentrated on booking short-term profits and index eroded most of its initial gain.
The key Index of DSE went up by 21.63 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse advanced 46.39 points at the closing.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
Eventually, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) went up by 21.63 points or 0.38 per cent to settle at 5,671.62 points.
The two other indices also finished higher.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips advanced 8.64 points or 0.42 per cent to finish at 2,049.63 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) rose 3.05 points or 0.23 per cent to close at 1,312.17 points.
Trading activities, however, fell to BDT 11.85 billion, which was 9.0 per cent lower than the previous day’s BDT 13.02 billion.
Analysts said the market maintained upward trend as banking issues remained attracted the investors amid dividend expectation, keeping the market afloat for the fourth session.
The gainers took a modest lead over the losers as out of 330 issues traded, 157 closed higher, 122 closed higher and 51 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Bangladesh Export Import Company (Beximco) dominated the DSE turnover chart with about 12.05 million shares worth BDT 425 million changing hands, followed by Bangladesh Thai Aluminium, Far Chemical Industries, Beximco Pharma and City Bank.
Pragati Insurance was the day’s highest gainer, posting 9.81 percent gain, while Rahima Food was the worst loser, losing 3.92 per cent.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also finished higher for the fourth day in a row with its Selective Categories Index - CSCX – advancing 46.39 points to settle at 10,653.41 points.
Gainers beat losers as 132 issues closed higher, 77 closed lower and 42 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 21.28 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth more than BDT 642 million in turnover.
