Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Bangladesh’s stocks finished almost flat on Monday, after facing mild correction in the previous session as investors were active on both sides of trading fence.
Both bourses - the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - closed flat amid choppy trading throughout the session.
The market opened with positive note in the morning and the key index of the major bourse reached at 5,715 points within first hour of trading, gaining more than 20 points, but the upbeat trend could not sustained as the session progressed, ultimately closed almost flat amidst declined participation from the investors.
The key index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) advanced 0.27 points while the selective category index of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) lost 13.66 points at closing.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), finished at 5,695.72 points, advancing 0.27 point over the previous day.
However, the two other indices closed in the red.
The DS30 comprising blue chips fell 4.77 points or 0.23 per cent to settle at 2,061.54 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also lost 2.62 points or 0.20 per cent to close at 1,305.10 points.
Turnover, the important indicator of the market, fell to BDT 9.95 billion, which was 1.10 per cent lower than the previous session’s turnover of BDT 11.04 billion.
The losers took a modest lead over the gainers as out of 325 issues traded, 173 closed higher, 106 closed lower and 46 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
IFIC Bank dominated the DSE turnover chart with some 14.64 million shares worth BDT 433 million changing hands, closely followed by City Bank BDT 401 million, Bangladesh Building Systems BDT 377 million, Ratanpur Steel BDT 376 million and AB Bank BDT 256 million.
IFIC Bank was the day’s best performer, posting a 7.50 per cent gain, while Fine Food was the worst loser, slumping by 3.96 per cent.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), ended marginally lower with its Selective Categories Index - CSCX - losing 13.66 points to settle at 10,716 points.
Losers beat gainers as 146 issues closed lower, 76 closed higher and 29 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 20.40 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth over BDT 562 million in turnover.
