Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Two separate committees have been formed to probe into Thursday’s fire incident at Bangladesh Bank (BB) headquarters in the capital Dhaka.
One committee was formed by the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD), while the other by the central bank of Bangladesh.
The BB has already formed a three-member committee, headed by its Executive Director Ahmed Jamal, to investigate the fire incident on its 13th floor.
“The committee has started investigation and visit the spot on Friday,” G.M. Abul Kalam Azad, assistant spokesperson and general manager of the department of communication and publication of the central bank, told BBN in Dhaka.
He also said the committee has been asked to submit their report to the BB governor by March 28.
On the other hand, the FSCD has formed a five-member committee led by its Deputy Director (Dhaka) Samarandra Nath Biswas.
The committee was asked to submit its report as early as possible, a FSCD official said.
The FSCD official also said two of the five-member committee visited the spot on Friday.
Seventeen fire fighter units went to the central bank in Dhaka's Motijheel and brought the fire under control within an hour. However, no casualties were reported from the fire on the 13th floor that housed the Foreign Exchange Policy Department of the BB.
The fire originated on the 13th floor of the 32-storey building around 9:28pm on Thursday and it was doused down at around 10:38 pm.
Meanwhile, a BB official has filed a general diary (GD) with Motijheel Police Station over Thursday’s fire incident at the central bank headquarters in the capital Dhaka.
Joint Director of the BB Nurul Islam, on behalf of the central bank, filed the diary with the police station Friday morning.
The BB official mentioned in the GD that a fire broke out at the 13th floor of the bank’s headquarters in Motijheel around 9:20pm on Thursday, which they informed the Civil Defence and Fire Service department immediately.
Within 30 minutes of the incident, the fire fighters doused the fire, the bank official stated in the GD, according to a police official.
