Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Bangladesh’s stocks edged lower on Thursday for the second running session as risk-averse investors continued their profit booking on sector specific stocks.
Following the previous day’s mild correction, both bourses -- the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened upward trend with increasing trading activities.
After 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced 17.10 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse gained 21.18 points at 10:45am.
After 30 minutes of trading, the prime index of the major bourse stands at 5,782, advancing 25.32 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse rose 39 points at 11:00am.
However, since then it started to fall amid slow trading activities and rest of the session fell steadily, ultimately edged 20 points lower.
The key index of DSE went down 20.51 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse slumped 48 points at the closing.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
The benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) went down by 20.51 points or 0.35 per cent to close at 5,736 points.
The two other indices also closed in the red.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, fell 4.97 points or 0.23 per cent to settle at 2134 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 4.44 points or 0.34 per cent to close at 1,313 points.
Trading activities fell 8.9 per cent over the previous day to BDT 10.16 billion.
The losers took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 329 issues traded, 197 closed lower, 86 closed higher and 46 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Beximco dominated the DSE turnover chart with 16.91 million shares of BDT 622 million changing hands, followed by City Bank, Saif Powertec, IDLC Finance and LankaBangla Finance.
Regent Textile was the day’s best performer, posting a 7.14 percent gain, while Pubali Bank was the worst loser, slumping by 9.72 per cent following its price adjustment after record date.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also edged lower with its Selective Categories Index - CSCX – losing 48 points to settle at 10,781.
Losers beat gainers as 153 issues closed lower, 63 closed higher and 33 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 18.66 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth BDT 599 million in turnover.
