Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Bangladesh’s stocks extended the losing spell for the fourth session on Sunday with turnover dipping below fresh five months low as investors reluctant to put funds on stocks amid prolonged bearish trend in the market.
Brokers said gradual decline in turnover and stocks price indicates that most of the investors remained on the sidelines and observing the market movement carefully amid lack of market triggers.
Following the previous week’s fall, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, the major bourse of the country, plunged more than 33 points within first 15 minutes of trading.
After 30 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s major bourse stood at 5,478 points, losing 43 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse fell 48 points at 11:00am and the downward trend continued till end of the session.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
Finally, DSEX, the prime index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), finished at 5,438 points, plunging by 83.42 points or 1.51 percent over the previous session.
The two other indices also closed lower.
The DS30 index, comprising the blue-chips, fell 25.91 points or 1.23 per cent to finish at 2,024.52 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) slumped by 9.60 points or 0.75 percent to close at 1262.64 points.
Trading activities fell sharply to BDT 5.05 billion, which was the more than five months lowest turnover of BDT 4.68 billion reordered on November 6, 2016.
The losers took a strong lead over the gainers as out of the 324 issues traded, 274 closed lower, 33 closed higher and 17 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
LankaBangla Finance topped the DSE turnover with about 8.76 million shares of BDT 440 million shares changing hands, followed by BDCOM Online BDT 139 million, Beximco BDT 138 million, Beximco Pharmaceuticals BDT 126 million and Saif Powertec BDT 122 million.
Prime Insurance was the day’s highest gainer, posting a 9.70 percent rise while ONE Bank was the worst loser, plunging by 16.67 percent following its price adjustment after record date.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also ended lower with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – losing 159 points to settle at 10,209.
Losers beat gainers as 195 issues closed lower, 28 closed higher and 12 remained unchanged on the CSE trading floor.
The port city bourse traded 15.58 million shares and mutual fund units worth Tk 343 million in turnover.
