Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks ended almost flat on Monday, after facing sharp decline in the previous session, as investors were active both sides of trading fence.
Analysts said the market finished almost flat as optimistic investors showed their buying appetite on some large-cap stocks while risk-averse investors continued on selling mood, taking the market flat red zone.
Following the previous day’s sharp decline, the key index of the major bourse rose about 26 points within first 12 minutes of trading, since then it started to decline.
After first hour of trading, the key index of the country’s major bourse stands at 5,388 points, losing around 50 points, but rest of the session it recovered almost all the losses.
Finally, the DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) fell 2.61 points while the Selective Categories Index of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) lost 14 points.
Dhaka Stock Exchange:
DSEX, the benchmark index of the DSE, finished at 5,435.63 points, losing 2.61 points or 0.05 percent over the previous session.
The two other indices also finished lower. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, fell 4.80 points or 0.23 percent to close at 2,019.71 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also lost 3.26 points or 0.25 percent to stand at 1,259.38 points.
Turnover, the important indicator of the market, dipped below Tk 5.0 billion-mark and amounted to BDT 4.99 billion, which was BDT 5.05 billion in the previous session.
The losers took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 324 issues traded, 173 closed lower, 110 closed higher and 41 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
LankaBangla Finance continued to dominate the DSE turnover chart with some 5.56 million shares worth BDT 279 million changing hands, closely followed by Regent Textile BDT 250 million, BATBC BDT 235 million, Beximco BDT 159 million and Ratanpur Steel BDT 133 million.
Prime Insurance Company was the day’s the best performer, posting a 9.94 percent gain, while Midas Financing was the worst loser, slumping by 8.46 percent.
Chittagong Stock Exchange:
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended lower with its Selective Categories Index - CSCX –losing 14.30 points to settle at 10,200 points.
Losers beat gainers as 141 issues closed lower, 69 closed higher and 36 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 12.50 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth BDT 337 million in turnover.
