Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - MJL Bangladesh Limited, a joint venture company, dominated the Dhaka Stock Exchange’s transaction chart last week that ended on Thursday.
Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, stood at BDT 27.80 billion on the DSE last week, which was nearly 35 percent higher than the previous week.
MJL Bangladesh, LankaBangla Finance, Beximco Pharmaceuticals, Shahjibazar Power Company, United Power, Brac Bank, IFAD Autos, Paramount Textile, Argon Denims and Ratanpur Steel Re-rolling Mills were the most-active shares in terms of value on the DSE last week.
According to statistics available with the DSE, some 9.90 million MJL shares were traded, generating a turnover of nearly BDT 1.21 billion, which was 4.37 percent of the week’s total turnover value.
The daily average turnover for the company was BDT 242 million.
The joint venture company’s share price closed at BDT 120.90 on Thursday, the last trading day of the week, advancing 0.17 percent over the previous week.
The company has reported un-audited third quarter (Q3), consolidated earnings per share (EPS) for January-March, 2017 period was BDT 1.96 as against BDT 1.37 for the same period a year ago.
In nine months for July 2016-March 2017, the consolidated EPS stood at BDT 5.11 as against BDT 3.64 for July’15-March’16.
MJL BD, which was listed on the Dhaka bourse in 2011, disbursed a total of 60 percent cash and 10 percent stock dividend for 18 months period ended on June 30, 2016.
The sponsor-directors own 71.53 percent stake in the MJL BD, while institutional investors own 14.43 percent, foreign investors 2.27 percent and the general public 11.77 percent as on April 30, 2017.
The company’s paid-up capital is BDT 3.01 billion and authorised capital is BDT 10 billion while total number of securities is 301.66 million, the DSE data shows.
LankaBangla emerged as the second with 19.95 million shares of BDT 1.05 billion changing hands, followed by Beximco Pharma BDT 998 million, Shahjibazar Power BDT 983 million and United Power BDT 909 million.
Brac Bank also included in the top ten turnover chart, with 9.92 million shares of BDT 784 million changing hands, followed by IFAD Autos BDT 760 million, Paramount Textile BDT 702 million, Argon Denims BDT 558 million and Ratanpur Steel BDT 553 million.
