Bangladesh’s stocks extend winning spell for fourth day

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Bangladesh’s stocks extended the winning spell for fourth day on Thursday as optimistic investors continued their buying binge amid post-Eid positive expectation.
Brokers said the market maintained the upbeat momentum for the fourth straight session optimistic investors took position on large-cap stocks ahead of June-closing.
“Budget review expectation, June-closing coupled with post-Eid positive hope continued to prompt investors to inject fresh funds on stocks, taking the market turnover to Tk 7.44 billion level,” said an analyst at a leading brokerage firm.
The market started with an upward note which continued till end of the session with no sign of reversal, finally ended more than 31 points higher.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
After four hours trading, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) finished at 5,599, advancing 31.38 points or 0.56 percent over the previous day.
The two other indices also finished higher. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips advanced 8.33 points or 0.40 percent to finish at 2071 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) rose 5.32 points or 0.41 per cent to close at 1,286 points.
Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, also rose to BDT 7.44 billion, which was 6.28 percent higher than the previous day’s BDT 7.0 billion.
Gainers took a strong lead over the losers, as prices of 188 securities advanced, 94 declined and 46 remained unchanged out of the 328 issues that were traded on the DSE floor.
LankaBangla Finance topped the DSE turnover chart with about 5.75 million shares worth BDT 317 million changing hands, followed by Regent Textile, Prime Bank, Square Pharma and Ratanpur Steel.
CVO Petrochemicals Refinery was the day’s highest gainer, posting 8.74 percent gain, while Asia Pacific Insurance was the worst loser, losing 4.31 percent.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also closed higher with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – advancing 57 points to settle at 10,450 points.
Gainers beat losers as 132 issues closed higher, 67 closed lower and 42 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 13.16 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth BDT 319 million in turnover.
