Bangladesh’s farm credits disbursement up 23% in Q1

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Agriculture loan disbursement grew by nearly 23 per cent or BDT 7.92 billion in the first quarter (Q1) of the current fiscal year (FY) following strengthening monitoring and supervision by the Bangladesh Bank (BB).

Disbursement of farm credit rose to BDT 42.36 billion during the July-September period of the FY 2017-18 from BDT 34.44 billion in the same period of the last fiscal, according to the central bank latest statistics.

Of BDT 42.36 billion, eight state-owned banks disbursed BDT 14.75 billion, and the remaining BDT 27.60 billion was disbursed by the private commercial banks (PCBs) and foreign commercial bank (FCBs).

All scheduled banks have achieved 20.76 per cent of their annual agricultural loan disbursement target for FY 18, fixed at BDT 204 billion.

On the other hand, the recovery of farm loans, however, rose to BDT 45.64 billion during the period under the review from BDT 35.42 billion in the same period of the FY 17.
