Emirates highlights importance of Bangladesh’s port city

Chittagong, Bangladesh (BBN) - Bangladesh Emirates Airline has highlighted the importance of Chittagong to its Bangladeshi operations.

Area Manager Bangladesh of Emirates Satish Sethi said this while speaking at a press conference in the country’s port city on Wednesday.

Mr Sethi said Chittagong was the key 'feeder market' - the main area from where Emirates' passengers come - for the airline's Dhaka services, outside of Dhaka itself.

Recalling launch of services to Bangladesh's capital 25 years ago, Mr Sethi said Emirates began operating two flights a week, using Boeing 737s. Dhaka was the carrier's 8th destination. Today Emirates serves the country 17 times a week.

Mr Sethi thanked the passengers and travel agents from Chittagong for their support over the years, seeking similar support in the future.

The airline now serves 116 destinations in 67 countries across every continent. Its 162 all wide-bodied fleet is among the youngest in the skies, with an average age of 79 months.
