ADB president discusses financial crisis with Japan envoys

Manila, Philippines (BNN)- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Haruhiko Kuroda on Friday met special envoys of Japan's Prime Minister Taro Aso to discuss the impact of the global financial crisis on developing countries in Asia.

Mr. Kuroda and the envoys - Masakazu Toyoda, Special Advisor for Asian Economy and Development, and Yoshinori Katori, Japan's ambassador for ASEAN - also exchanged views on how Japan and ADB can assist countries in the region ride out the negative impacts of the financial turmoil, according to an ADB press statement.

Mr. Kuroda said ADB is closely monitoring the impact of the global financial crisis on member countries and stands ready to help those who request it.

Offering support for developing countries where needed is vital for sustaining the region's economic development, he added.

The ADB, based in Manila, is dedicated to reducing poverty in the Asia and Pacific region through inclusive economic growth, environmentally sustainable growth, and regional integration.
