Last updated: December 9, 2011

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Ronan Farrow, Special Adviser to the U.S. Secretary of State for Global Youth Issues and Director of the State Department’s Office of Global Youth Issues, will arrive in the capital Dhaka on Friday.

During his four-day visit, Farrow will meet with youth leaders, educators, and local community actors to discuss youth engagement in Bangladesh, a US embassy press statement said in Dhaka.

Special Adviser Farrow is responsible for amplifying and advocating youth policy and programming throughout the U.S. State Department.  The Office of Global Youth Issues, created by Secretary Clinton as a result of a Department-wide review of youth policy, oversees an historic effort to empower young people as economic and civic actors through U.S. programs, encourage governments to respond to youth through U.S. diplomacy, and directly engage young people around the world.

A lawyer and former human rights advocate and journalist, Special Adviser Farrow is a graduate of Bard College and Yale Law School.  He is a member of the New York bar.

Prior to joining the State Department, he served as Spokesperson for Youth at UNICEF.  In 2010, Harper’s Bazaar named him their “up-and-coming politician of the year.”

Farrow was recently awarded a Rhodes Scholarship for 2012, distinguishing him as one of the country’s brightest thinkers.

This is his first visit to Bangladesh.
