Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – India’s NTPC Limited singed an agreement with Electricity Generation Company of Bangladesh Limited (EGCB) on Tuesday for providing operation and maintenance services for two 120 megawatt gas-based peaking power plants in Shiddhirganj.
NTPC additional general manager AN Mishra and EGCB secretary Kazi Nazrul Islam signed the deal at the EGCB head office in the capital Dhaka.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by NTPC Director (commercial) IJ Kapoor and EGCG Chairman MA Muttalib, offivials said.
Under the US$ 8.8 million deal, the NTPC will provide the services that include transition management and take over services, operation and maintenance of owner’s facility, recruitment and training of owner’s staff and health, safety, quality and environment management for a period of six years.
The EGCB, an enterprise of Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB), is expected to benefit from the experience and knowledge of the Indian company in efficiently operating thermal power stations, as well as from world class best practices, systems and work culture followed by NTPC.
Indian government-owned NTPC is the number one independent power producer (IPP) and the 10th largest power generator in the world and the third largest power generator in Asia, having installed capacity of 35,354 MW with another 13,588 MW capacity at under construction plants.
International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank will provide the EGCB with necessary fund as credit.
