Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Bangladesh Thai Aluminium dominated the Dhaka bourse’s transaction chart last week that ended on Thursday while top 10 traded companies captured more than 24 percent transaction.
Brokers said the BD Thai emerged as turnover leader as the investors were active on its shares throughout the trading session amid speculation that the company’s expansion project will come into light very soon.
Last year, the company raised BDT 523.35 million through issuance of 52.33 million ordinary shares of BDT 10 each at par in order to pay off partial debt and expand the production capacity.
According to statistics available with the DSE, about 31.44 million shares of BD Thai were traded, generating a turnover of BDT 998 million, which was 3.32 percent of the week’s total transaction.
The daily average turnover for the company was BDT 200 million.
The engineering sector company’s share price closed at BDT 31.10 each on Thursday, the last session of the week, advancing 1.63 percent over the previous week.
BD Thai Aluminium, which was listed on the Dhaka bourse in 1990, recommended 5.0 percent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2017.
In 2016, the company disbursed 5.0 percent cash and 10 percent stock dividend.
The company’s earnings per share (EPS) stood at BDT 0.20 for July-September, 2017 as against BDT 0.24 for July-September, 2016.
The company’s paid-up capital is BDT 1.09 billion and authorised capital is BDT 2.0 billion while the total number of securities is 10.9.90 million.
Sponsor-directors own 26.02 percent stake in the company while institutional investors own 2.44 percent, foreign 0.91 percent and the general public 70.63 percent as on November 30, 2017, the DSE data shows.
Meanwhile, the top ten traded companies accounted for more than 24 percent of the week’s total turnover transaction on the DSE.
Square Pharmaceuticals followed next, with shares of BDT 834 million changing hands, followed by Grameenphone BDT 837 million, Brac Bank BDT 799 million, Paramount Textile BDT 739 million, Golden Harvest Agro Industries BDT 694 million and Legacy Footwear BDT 588 million.
Shahjalal Bank was also included in the top ten turnover chart with shares of BDT 561 million changing hands, followed by City Bank BDT 554 million and AB Bank BDT 523 million.
