Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Bangladesh’s stocks closed the week’s last session inching a bit higher Thursday with low turnover as most of the investors followed cautious stance ahead of year-ending.
Brokers said the market ended almost flat amid edgy participation from the investors.
Following the previous day’s marginal correction, the premier bourse saw negative trend while the port city’s bourse witnessed positive, but trading activities remained low.
Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced more than 6.80 points while the CSE All Shares Price Index of port city bourse advanced 14 points at 10:45am.
After first 30 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse fell 1.98 points while the CSE All Shares Price Index of port city bourse rose 20 points at 11:00am.
After 90 minutes of trading, DSEX advanced more than 7.55 points while the CSE All Shares Price Index fell 8.16 points at 12noon.
Finally, DSEX advanced 5.94 points while the CSE All Shares Price Index gained 17 points at closing.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
DSEX, the core index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 5.94 points or 0.09 percent to settle at 6,230.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also advanced 1.01 points or 0.07 percent to finish at 1,376.
However, the DS30 index, comprising blue chips fell 4.49 points or 0.20 percent to close at 2,247.
Bearish sentiment remained reflected on the turnover activities as total turnover on the day came down to BDT 4.03 billion which was BDT 4.06 billion in the previous day.
It was the lowest single-day transaction in the six months since June 13, this year when turnover was recorded at BDT 4.0 billion.
The gainers took a modest lead over the losers as out of 331 issues traded, 180 closed higher, 95 closed lower and 56 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
CMC Kamal emerged at the day’s turnover chart with shares of nearly BDT 181 million changing hands, closely followed by Islami Bank Bangladesh, Grameenphone, Square Pharmaceuticals and Confidence Cement.
Yeakin Polymer was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 6.67 percent while Fine Foods was the day’s worst loser, plunging by 3.32 percent.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also closed slightly higher with CSE All Shares Price Index of – advancing 17 points to finish at 19,274 points.
The Selective Categories Index of the port city bourse – CSCX – also advanced 6.26 points to settle at 11,648 points.
Gainers beat losers as 126 issues closed higher, 77 closed lower and 34 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 9.46 million shares and mutual fund units worth BDT 418 million in turnover.
