Bangladesh’s stocks turn volatile at midday Thursday

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Bangladesh’s stocks turned volatile at midday on Thursday as cautious investors remained on selling mood ahead of year-closing.

Following the previous day’s correction, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) saw negative trend while the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened positive trend with low trading activities.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse fell 2.40 points while the CSE All Shares Price Index (CAPSI) of port city bourse advanced 21 points at 10:45am.

After first 30 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse gained 3.39 points while the CSE All Shares Price Index (CAPSI) of port city bourse advanced 18 points at 11:00am.

After 90 minutes of trading, DSEX fell more than 0.50 point while the CSE All Shares Price Index lost 7.65 points at 12noon when the report was filed.

DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE stands at 6,196 points, losing 0.50 points at 12noon.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also lost 0.60 points or 0.03 percent to reach at 2,231 points.

However, the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 0.40 points or 0.02 percent to reach at 1,365 points.

Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, stands at BDT 1.40 billion, when the report was filed at 12noon.

National Tubes was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth BDT 85 million changing hands, closely followed by Ratanpur Steel BDT 51 million, Grameenphone BDT 46 million, Rupali Life Insurance BDT 40 million and Alif Manufacturing Company BDT 36 million.

Of the issues traded till then, 158 advanced, 106 declined and 54 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:

The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also saw downward trend till then with CSE All Shares Price Index (CAPSI) – losing 7.65 points to stand at 19,196 points, also at 12noon.

The Selective Categories Index of the port city bourse also lost 4.78 points to reach at 11,585 points till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 55 gained, 59 declined and 28 issues remained unchanged with BDT 55 million in turnover.
