Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - SK Sur Chowdhury on Wednesday completed his tenure as Bangladesh Bank (BB) deputy governor and will be appointed banking reform adviser for two years.
The appointment was approved at a board of directors meeting held at the central bank headquarters in Dhaka on Tuesday with BB Governor Fazle Kabir in the chair.
In his new responsibilities, Mr. Sur Chowdhury will advise Bangladesh Bank and other authorities concerned in formulating and implementing reform policies, strategies and programmes for banks and financial institutions, a BB statement said.
He joined Bangladesh Bank in May 1981 as Assistant Director and serving the bank with the zeal of his expertise since then. His long journey of more than 36 years of Central Banking has been enriched with in-depth knowledge on financial sector supervision and regulation.
Mr. Chowdhury had represented Bangladesh Bank in numerous international conferences, workshops and seminars.
Among other responsibilities, he had been the Chairman of Asia Pacific Rural and Agricultural Credit Association (APRACA), Chairman of South East Asia, New Zealand & Australia (SEANZA) Supervisory Forum, Alternate Director of Asian Clearing Union (ACU), Member of Board of Director of Child Youth Finance International etc.
He has been awarded with Gandhi Peace Award 2014, Atish Dipankar Gold Medal 2015, Mother Teresa Memorial Award 2015, ICM Award 2016 Vattern Banker award 3017 as appreciation for his astounding contribution in the financial sector.
Mr. Chowdhury secured MA in English and MBA in Finance & Accounting. He is a Diplomaed Associate of Institute of Bankers Bangladesh (DAIBB) and awarded with Bangladesh Bank Gold Medal for achieving the first position in the Banking Diploma examination.
