6 Bullet-Hit In Islami Bank Clash

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – At least six people sustained bullet injuries in a clash in Islami Bank Bangladesh headquarters in Dilkusha area of the capital on Sunday, witnesses said.

Of the injured, the condition of three were claimed to be critical.

The clash erupted in the morning between the supporters of two groups – S Alam Group-appointed high officials and a section of people claiming to be the shareholders of the bank – in front of the bank, the witnesses added.

The situation deteriorated when some officials led-by Deputy Managing Director Miftah Uddin attempted to enter the headquarters of the commercial bank.

The other group, claiming to be the shareholders of the bank, blocked their ways, leading to the clashes where the six people got bullet injuries. Initially it was not know who first opened the fires.

Reports of unrest began to come to highlight at several banks including the Islami Bank, the largest bank of Bangladesh in terms of deposits, days after Sheikh Hasina led Awami League government was ousted by the mass uprising on August 5.

Earlier, a group of officials and staff of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC demonstrated in front of the bank's head office, protesting for being deprived of official benefits and promotions over the last 15 years.
