Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The central bank has asked all the scheduled banks not to allow cash withdrawals of more than Tk 3.0 lakh only for this week instead of Tk 2.0 lakh earlier.
The Bangladesh Bank (BB) has also instructed the banks to monitor transactions through cheques and block any suspicious transfer of funds, officials said.
The cash withdrawal limit has been enhanced as security concerns have been gradually easing, they explained.
"Due to security problems in transporting cash to bank branches, please do not allow withdrawals more than Tk 3 lakh in cash during the upcoming week," the BB conveyed the message to the banks through an SMS.
Earlier the central bank had advised the banks to encourage the depositors to pay their parties through crossed checks instead of cash.
