
Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Bangladesh’s inflationary pressure on the economy increased further January mainly because of rise in price of food items ahead of the Holy Ramadan.
Inflation as measured by the consumers' price index (CPI) rose to 8.58 per cent in January 2026 from 8.49 per cent of the previous month on the point-to-point basis, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS)’s latest data, released on Sunday.
Overall inflation has maintained an upward trajectory in recent months, climbing from 8.17 per cent in October to 8.29 per cent in November and further to 8.49 per cent in December.
The rate of inflation in the case of food items reached at 8.29 per cent in January 2026 from 7.71 per cent a month before while the non-food inflation came down to 8.81per cent from 9.13 per cent on the point-to-point basis.
On the other hand, the inflation came down to 8.66 per cent during the period under review from 8.77 per cent a month ago on the 12-month average basis.
