Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Bangladesh and India will jointly celebrate the 90th anniversary of the publication of poem ‘Bidrohi’ by rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and his 113th birth anniversary on Friday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will formally inaugurate the two-day celebration at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital Dhaka at 10 am on May 25, said Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Abul Kalam Azad at a press conference at PID conference room on Wednesday.
The information minister said Indian Minister for Law, Justice and Minorities Salman Khurshid will attend the inaugural ceremony as the guest of honour.
Nazrul experts from both India and Bangladesh will take part in the discussions on the inaugural day while artistes from both the countries perform in cultural functions.
A delegation from India comprising Members of Parliament, Nazrul song singers and recitation artistes will come to Bangladesh on the occasion.
The minister said cultural functions will remain open for all in the evening on both the days at Shilpakala Academy. Exhibition of books on Nazrul will also be held at the Shilpakala Academy.
Functions will also be held in the districts where poet Nazrul had spent parts of his life. 
Abul Kalam Azad said, as part of joint celebration, similar programmes will be held at Kolkata and the poet’s birthplace Bardhaman in India.
Dhaka and New Delhi agreed on the joint celebration during Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Sing’s visit to Bangladesh last year.
The minister said the Nazrul Institute has adopted different programs to project the poet’s ideals to the people.
