BB to provide BDT 176 billion notes ahead of Eid

Last updated: July 8, 2012
Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The central bank will provide BDT 175.92 billion, including new notes worth BDT 75 billion, to banks to meet the increasing demand for funds ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, officials said.
The amount, fixed for this year, increased by 36 percent or BDT 46.22 billion more than last year's BDT 129.70 billion, they added.
"The central bank set a target to pump about BDT 175 billion into the banking system from their deposits ahead of the Eid as banks need additional funds for their clients, who use the funds to make payments -- salaries and festival allowances," a senior official of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) said.
He also said the central bank would supply new notes of different denominations equivalent to BDT 5 to 20 billion to its different offices across the country.
