Islamabad, Pakistan (BBN) - At least five people were killed and 35 others wounded in a powerful bomb attack on a five-star hotel in the country’s north-western Peshawar city on Tuesday night.
Peshawar is the capital of the North-West Frontier Province that borders Afghanistan, and is troubled by Taliban- and al-Qaeda-linked insurgency.
Gunmen stormed the hotel just on Tuesday night before "a big bomb went off," police official Liaqat Ali reportedly said.
A local top official confirmed that at least five people were killed and 25 others were injured in the attack that occurred at Pearl Continental Hotel.
The blast was so powerful that windowpanes of the nearby buildings broke. Soon after the blast, the power supply to the area has been suspended. The whole area is plunged into darkness, according to reports.
