Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Expressing deep concern over the misappropriation of huge amount of money from a bank, the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) has demanded taking stern legal action against those businessmen and officials involved in the financial scam.
The country’s apex trade body, in a statement, said it supports taking tough legal measures against those businessmen, industrialists and officials involved in taking and giving loans in the name of Hallmark Group through corruption.
"Misappropriation of money and corruption in any commercial bank or financial institution could never be acceptable because such mismanagement may reduce the availability of credit for genuine businessmen and entrepreneurs, which would ultimately affect the overall production," the FBCCI said.
It said the FBCCI always cooperates the government in maintaining discipline in the banking sector because this sector plays very important role in providing and realizing loans for the overall development of the economy.
"The FBCCI thinks that it is urgent to take action against those spoiling discipline and environment in the banking sector in the greater interest of genuine entrepreneurs and businesspeople as well as the banking sector," it noted.
The banking sector has been playing a very crucial role in the greater and sustainable development of the country. So, a qualitative change is required in establishing an efficient banking system, transparency and accountability, it added.
The FBCCI also urged the government to take strong effective measures to stop recurrence of such corrupt activities in all commercial banks and financial activities.
