US director for Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies visits Dhaka

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Retired U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Ed Smith, Director of the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS), is visiting Dhaka to meet with government, military and political leaders to discuss security issues.

"APCSS addresses regional and global security issues, inviting military and civilian representatives of the United States and Asia-Pacific nations to its comprehensive program of courses and conferences, both in Hawaii and throughout the Asia-Pacific region," a U.S. embassy press statement said in the capital, Dhaka on Wednesday.

APCSS focuses on a multilateral and multi-dimensional approach to defining and addressing regional security issues and capacities and helps develop professional and personal ties among national security establishments throughout the region.

Ed Smith will meet with senior Bangladesh government and defense officials as well as think tank representatives. He will also be the guest speaker at a roundtable, co-hosted by the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute and the U.S. embassy, on civil-military cooperation, according to the statement.
