Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The taskforce, formed by Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) to oversee the fire exit systems at Readymade Garments (RMG) units, will start functioning on Sunday.
"On the first day inspection, the taskforce would visit three factories at Ashulia," a BGMEA official said, adding that it will take factory-to-factory visit to create awareness about the fire incidents among the factory owners.
The BGMEA has formed the taskforce to reduce fire casualties at garments factories after the Tazreen fire tragedy.
Representatives from Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA), Fire service and Civil Defense and Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) are in the taskforce.
Some 3,500 RMG units are in operation in Dhaka, Ashulia, Gazipur and Narayanganj, Savar and Chitagong, according to the BGMEA.
