Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- At least five people went missing after a boat carrying them capsized in the river Meghna in the country’s east-central Chandpur district Tuesday morning, police said.
A sand-laden boat with 35 passengers on board sank in the river after hitting Harina Ferry Terminal due to poor visibility caused by dense fog, witnesses said, adding that of the passengers, five remain missing while the rest swam ashore.
Ferry services on Chandpur-Shariatpur remain suspended following the incident, according to reports.
