Stocks close lower

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN): The prices of most of the stocks declined Tuesday, the first trading session in the year-2013 with turnover value dropped significantly.

However, the day’s session was started with a positive note on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), but it could not sustain amid late hour sale pressure, eventually the key index ended 28 points lower.

The benchmark general index of the DSE ended at 4,190.99, shedding 28.32 points or 0.67 per cent.

Turnover value fell drastically to BDT 1.53 billion, down by 39 per cent from previous session’s BDT 2.49 billion.

Out of 264 shares and mutual funds units were traded, among them 80 advanced, 154 declined and 30 remained unchanged.

Beximco Limited topped the turnover chart with shares worth BDT 86.30 million changing hands.

A total of 0.052 million trades were executed with 45.91 million trading volumes.

INB Sina was the day’s highest gainer posting 3.09 per cent while Midas Financing was the worst losers, slumping by 9.41 per cent.

Earlier, on Sunday, DGEN gained 14 points.
