Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Workers Welfare Association’s (WWA) Election-2013 was held in a Bangladeshi sweater manufacturing company M/s. Softex Sweater Industry (Pvt.) Ltd. in Dhaka EPZ on Sunday.
The election was accomplished in a very peaceful environment. The Softex Sweater Industry (Pvt.) Ltd. is running with 510 female and 732 male workforces, a statement said on Monday.
102 enterprises are operating in Dhaka EPZ, among those 89 enterprises are eligible for WWA Election and referendum held in 83 enterprises, of them 55 enterprises has already completed WWA Election.
“To maintain this sequence, M/s. Softex Sweater Industry (Pvt.) Ltd. in Dhaka EPZ has done WWA Election-2013 on Sunday. Md. Ashraful Kabir, General Manager of Dhaka EPZ was physically present during the election,” it noted.
According to EPZ Workers Welfare Association and Industrial Relations Act-2010, there are 339 enterprises are eligible for WWA election among the 409 operating enterprises of 8 EPZs in Bangladesh. Meanwhile 183 industries has already completed their election in EPZs.
The WWA election is a vital condition to keep GSP facility for Bangladesh. As per BEPZA roadmap towards United States Trade Representative (USTR), Bangladesh EPZ Authority is in right track to complete the WWA Election in all operating units of EPZs within December 2013.
