Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has taken a fresh initiative to promote South Asia Sub-regional Economic Cooperation for boosting trade, investment and tourism in the region.
Visiting ADB Director General for South Asia Kunio Senga called on Finance Minister of Bangladesh AMA Muhith at the ministry in Dhaka on Tuesday and assured him to provide financial assistance for such cooperation with India, Bhutan and Nepal.
"We believe all the countries in the sub-region can be benefited through mutual cooperation," the ADB executive director told reporters after the meeting.
Mr. Senga also sought guideline from the minister on how ADB could provide support to specific investment projects especially in the fields of transportation, trade and investment and tourism.
Bangladesh finance minister told reporters that ADB official discussed the issue and stressed the need for regional cooperation for mutual benefit of the people of this region.
"Their [ADB] proposal is for a kind of preparation so we can move immediately after a political decision in this regard," the minister added.
