Last updated: September 28, 2013

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Japanese clothing chain Uniqlo has announced to open two more stores in the capital Dhaka as part of its plan to establish a nationwide chain across Bangladesh.

The latest move follows on the opening of its first two stores in Bangladesh’s capital in mid-July. In the short span of two months, Grameen Uniqlo has attracted a popular following across the capital, and the latest locations cater to growing demand, according to a company announcement.

The world’s fourth largest clothing retailer will open the new stores at H, 101, Kakoli, Banani and 40/1, D, VIP road, New Paltan in Dhaka.
Tadahiro Yamaguchi, Grameen UNIQLO Chief Operating Officer, said: “We’re excited to, so soon after initial launch, have the opportunity to expand across Bangladesh.”

Grameen UNIQLO began with door-to-door sales in farming villages - offering affordable, quality clothing to people living below the poverty line. “Through the new stores in Dhaka, Grameen UNIQLO creates local jobs and offers customers in Bangladesh's capital quality, comfortable, and affordable clothing,” a company announcement said.

A social business launched in 2010, Grameen Uniqlo is a joint social business venture between Fast Retailing and Grameen Healthcare Trust. Profits are re-invested in the business within Bangladesh, to grow the network of stores.

Grameen UNIQLO produces the collection in Bangladesh using locally sourced materials, providing highly practical items - made by locals, for locals.
The venture aims to offer good quality comfortable and affordable clothing, with the outlets selling 32 items for men and 10 for women—shirts, trousers and sportswear—priced between BDT 190 to BDT 1,180 with Uniqlo’s signature theme “beauty in hyperpracticality”.
